Major properties of 3m adhesive tapes

Adhesive tapes main purpose is sticking things together. In market, you would find different types of tapes that solve different purpose. From sealing of boxes to making of joints between sheets of drywall material, these can be used for any purpose. However, each of them cannot solve the same purpose; therefore there is wide variety of tapes that has its different properties.

• Stick two surfaces: This is the foremost property of adhesive tapes. Double-sided tapes are being used for this purpose. These come in different widths, colors, thicknesses, and with various adhesives that can withstand any temperature level (up to 160 degree C). These are suitable for only lightweight applications, as maximum temperature resistant is up to 160 degree C.


• Water resistant: Foam adhesive tapes are used for this purpose. These can be found on doors or windows that help in keeping heat inside the house. As doors are very commonly being used for entry and exit purpose, therefore foam tapes have cushioning property that makes it ideal for those purposes. These come in both single or double sided adhesive, which can be used according to one own needs.


• High temperature resistant: 3m adhesive tapes are resistant to any temperature from 70 degree C to 180 degree C. However, tapes that are to be used on circuit boards, insulation and in aerospace industry, they need to have high temperature resistant. Therefore, for that high degree temperature tapes are being used.


• Anti-slip feature: In order to prevent slipping of from the steps or stairs, anti-slip tapes are being applied on the edge of staircases. This helps to keep friction that prevent one from being slipped. Therefore, this is quite helpful to maintain safety. These tapes are available in extra visibility form like yellow and black color which glow in the dark.


• Glass protection: To protect glass from being broken, glass protection adhesive tapes are being used. This helps in keeping the windows, flooring and work surface area clean and undamaged during the time of reconstruction. Besides protecting the glasses, it is also helpful in protecting wood and carpet, as well. As wide area is needed to be covered, therefore professionals buy wide rolls of tapes to cover the area.


• Low tack: Where stenciling or masking of delicate surface is needed to be done, low tack masking tape is required. Beside this, it is ideal for applications that are already being painted or have delicate surfaces. These tapes are repositionable and can easily be removed without leaving adhesive residues. Further, these tapes can be used individually or conjunction with fine line tape.
